Premeditated Depeditation

By Little Steve

So it's crunch time guys!
Well, maybe not so much for all of you as it is for me, and this is why I have been so lacking with the updates...i know, always an excuse. Deal with it though, I give good music so all should be forgiven :)

BellX1
So to start with today, I wanted to put up a track off an album that I discovered at the station. I've not heard much of these guys, but they're called BellX1 and, to be honest, their album Flock, leaves a lot to be desired. BUT I super love this song, and not only is it a great song, it's also self-referent in that it's about writing a song. Ahh. Oh, and they're Irish.
Check it yo!

BellX1 - My First Born For A Song

Young Knives
Ok, now to the Midlands, a little further across the water. I have lived in what is known as the Midlands, and so it makes me happy to admit that, after a few listens I have really fallen for this band's new album. They are the Young Knives, and the album is Super Abundance. I received their single a while ago at the station and I didn't think it was the same band! Their first album never grabbed me, although it did do ok in the UK. I hope they do better with this one, it's certainly a lot of fun.

Young Knives - Counters

Young Knives - Light Switch

Five O'Clock Heroes
Keeping it indie-tastic, I have been enjoying the sounds of the Five O'Clock Heroes, from New York. They, like the Young Knives, are just about the fun. Their new album is called Bend To The Breaks, and it's all very similar. But when you're doing something that people enjoy, why complain?

Five O'Clock Heroes - Head Games
Five O'Clock Heroes - Anybody Home

Thom Yorke
I have found a remix of Thom Yorke's The Eraser recently, which at first I shook my head at. How can you remix Thom Yorke?? But, alas, it has been done with quite a bit of style and some nice bleeps and beats by XXXChange. Have a listen.

Thom Yorke - The Eraser(XXXChange Remix)

Hadouken!
Heading now into some more upbeat, electro-fun territory, why don't we discuss the new Hadouken! album. Now, it was quite a while ago that I discovered the single 'That Boy That Girl', and I loved the speediness and biting UK-scenster lyrics. I must admit, on first listen of this album I felt it was all a bit too much for my little head. But then, on the next few listens I just let go, and whenever I feel like a dance in my head (because real men don't dance) I put it on!
Now dance!

Hadouken! - That Boy That Girl

Hadouken! - Mister Misfortune

Kenna
Now for something a little different. This guy, who originally hails from Ethiopa and now lives in New York, is called Kenna. I haven't heard much about him until I randomly found his single on my computer, most likely from one of the radio folders. I thought his sound was interesting because it runs along the edge of electro and pop which is not always a bad thing. Also, after listening to a few more of his songs he also does slow songs with style. I'll stick a couple of tracks up here for your listening pleasure, let me know what you think. The second track is kinda JT...but I don't have a problem with that :)

Kenna - Out Of Control (State of Emergency)

Kenna - Loose Wires

Well that's all for today. There is soo much more, but I just realised I have quite a lot of reading I need to do before class tomorrow. So, once again I plead with you to deal with it...and enjoy your music!

Anzac Day Tunes

By Little Steve

So there has been a buzz in the air today...maybe not the kind you get when you go see a great band and you're waiting for them to come on stage. More like the buzz of people not enjoying their day off like they should...geez at least most of them are getting paid to stay home while I'm serving them food!
Enough, my rant is done. It's time to change the buzz, this evil vibe, to something more fun-filled. Or at least music-filled.

Zoot Woman 2
So what has been tickling my musical fancy of late? Well...I did just check out Zoot Woman's page to find out they have a new musical tidbit available. It's another great one and gets me even more hyped up for their new album due out soon. Check it yo.

Zoot Woman - Live In My Head

Anyone in the mood for some electro? I have found another bangin' tune from the most awesome Dj: Danger!. He has done a remix of Sebastien Tellier's new single Divine. Also, there is one from the Midnight Juggernauts if you care to find that one yourself. I don't think I liked it as much, but I must say, the Juggers remixes do have a habit of creepin' up on ya.

Sebastien Tellier - Divine (Danger remix)

Laura Marling
...sorry I got sidetracked by Hype Machine...too many remixes, my head is about to explode. But to allow it to abate, let's get something a little more chilled and emotional on here. By now, it certainly seems that Laura Marling is becoming known amongst the mini-masses. I was playing a couple of her songs in my cafe the other day and these two girls with their macbook pro were humming along to them. BUT I still like her and I think you should too. So open your mouth and swallow this down. That's a good boy :)

Laura Marling - Old Stone

Laura Marling - Night Terror

The Shortwave Set
Oh oh oh, i super love these guys. Check out this tune and tell me you don't feel the same. They are The Shortwave Set and of course they are from London :)

The Shortwave Set - White Lie

Stay tuned kids....more to come!

Songs for a 'fixed' template aka Procrastination

By Little Steve
I think I have sorted my template...and learned a slight amount about HTML while I was at it. Please don't ask me to explain what I had to do, it's best kept in the closet. Unlike some of the music tidbits I bring to you today!

So now it has been a while since I started doing my radio thang and I do have a lot of stuff to share with you my lovely little music demons. There's some slow stuff, some fast stuff and 'other'.

Cloud Cult
First up, I want to put up something from last year's Cloud Cult album. I missed out on this great album somehow. It's called The Meaning of 8 and it breaks my heart every time I listen to it. It was written by Craig Minowa, like a couple of albums before it, about his 8 year old son who died. Here's a couple of tracks for your ears. Oh, and they have a new album coming out soon I think (April 8th) called Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes).

Cloud Cult - A Girl Underground

Cloud Cult - A Good God

We Are Scientists
So the new We Are Scientists album is out, Brain Thrust Mastery, that got me slightly excited due to the amazing funness of the last album. I have been underwhelmed with my first couple of listens though. But I do like this track

We Are Scientists - Chick Lit

The Hours
Now there is a London band called The Hours which I have been listening to recently, I do qiute like their single and so I will put i here for your perusal. Their album is called Narcissus Road and not sure if and when it will be released here. Probably way after they've had their 15minutes in the UK...just like the rest of them.

The Hours - Ali In The Jungle

Speaking of already having their 15minutes, we've finally received the Does It Offend You, Yeah? album. And it's pretty darn fun. There's equal amounts of rock and electro dance fun to keep all entertained. Check out my new favourite one of theirs

DIOYY - With a Heavy Heart (I Regret To Inform You)

The Audreys
Now for something a little more local and chilled. One of my favourite Adelaide bands, The Audreys, have finally brought out their new single off their forthcoming album. It's lovely and sweet and great just like all that's come before.

The Audreys - Paradise City

magistrates

Ok now for some sexy fun times from Essex...not possible I hear you ask? Well check out the Magistrates...so much fun.

Magistrates - The InBetweens

Where's the electro? Here! Another great remix from DatA

Nelson - I Say You Can't Stop (DatA Remix)

Oh and there's these sweet little local boys called Hercules In NY I found through SYN. Take a listen to this funky disco-electro tune

Hercules In NY - Nightlite

ENOUGH for now. You have been spoilt and it's past your bedtime. Instead of a midnight snack, chomp on these tunes. Love and respect people...that's what it's all about. Oh and music of course.

Back...with a new compilation

By Little Steve

Well it has been a while my chucks. But now that I'm working at the radio station I have a few more weapons in my arsenal...so get ready! (haha cliches)
Anyway, i have just discovered how to archive/compress my songs easily on my mac so I have uploaded a folder with my new compilation on it, thing is that it's not really in the order I would like. So how's about I write down the order I originally had it in and you can do with it what you will. Just keep in mind, there's nothing quite as good as the magic position :)

This comp does not have all new songs, but some are new. Of course, it's been a few weeks now and there are heaps more I would have loved to add, but they will just have to wait because these songs deserve your attention too.
Some of them I have already put in this blog, but now here is a collection made easy for you.

It's pretty rockin' and also a little dancey, just the way I know you like it ;)

So order wise-

1. Sunrise- Yeasayer
2. Always Where I Need to Be- The Kooks (yep, the new one)
3. Vanishing Point- Plug In City
4. Break- The Cinematics
5. Cryptic - Pin Me Down
6. Lighthouse - The Dirty Secrets
7. Cockroaches - The E.L.F.
8. We Won't Break - Zoot Woman
9. Good To Sea - Pinback
10. I wanna Be a Style Crusader (DatA Remix) - Big Face
11. Sudden Rush (Twelves Remix) - Erlend Oye
12. Guilt By Association - Louis XIV
13. U.R.A Fever- The Kills
14. Two Pills - Le Kingste
15. Restless - Unkle
16. Ce Jeu (Twelves remix) - Yelle
17. No More Violence - Pnau
18. My People - The Presets

Get it here

SO there you have it, so much funness...maybe even more than you can handle...nah, I know you can handle it ;)
It's kind of a big file so get it when you have time, unless of course you have a fast connection, which most of you do these days eh. Took a while to upload though...maybe it's just Zshare.

Down and Out

By Little Steve
Ah! I have no internet, but I will be back online next week and will have my first blog compilation up...get excited kids!

Welcome, Ghosts

Category: , , , , By Jac

Hello everyone who reads this blog, my name is Jac and shall be joining forces with Steve in becoming conceited internet bloggers. Anyways, let's commence..

Danger Radio.
Whilst overseas the past couple of months I only really made it to one gig which is really disappointing. But luckily enough out of the 4 bands that played at the Ft Lauderdale leg of the Pac Tour, one really impressed me and they are known as Danger Radio. Hailing from Washington in the USA they play a style of music that I can only describe as dancing music, but it's not dance music.
They currently have their 'Punch Your Lights Out' EP in circulation, but honestly it sounds really average since the production is so uninspired it just makes the songs sound boring when they are indeed fantastic. With an album due mid this year I can only hope they get a decent producer to handle the project so it doesn't bore everyone to death. I can tell people will complain about the lead singers voice since it's very P!ATD-esque but for some reason I can handle it with the music it's with.

Danger Radio - Keep It Up

Cutting Pink With Knives.
From London, this band has a pretty different sound, mixing 80s disco electro sounds with loud fast 'rara' music, which I am not even going to try and put into a genre considering all the debating over what is what these days.
All I can say is that their album 'Populuxxe' has a really awesome sound with music that's loud fast angry and then dancy. I'm upping their song 'Laser Hannon', which is a pretty good example of what they sound like, even if it's a bit toned down compared to their other songs.

Cutting Pink With Knives - Laser Hannon

Chicka Chicka Yeah!

Why Have You Kept Me Waiting?

Category: , , , , By Little Steve

I hear you all ask...yes every single one of you that avidly read my music blog :)
So i guess I owe you all some fun music seeing as it took me this long to write again. Fair 'nuff too. Let's get into it shall we?

First up I have a song that not only excites me due to the fact it's just good, but also because it heralds the arrival of a new album from a great group. It's the new single from Zoot Woman! For those of you not aware of this British electronic pop group, then let your education begin here. This will be their third album and it will be released in a couple of months I think. Their first effort, Living In Magazines, was a groovy disc that mixed 80s disco with electronic pop. It included the great single It's Automatic which had MOS chillout compilers, and remixers alike, very excited.
The second album was self-titled and more ambient than it's predecessor. A little heavier on the electronic side, this album seemed to have greater longevity...for me at least. They released a moody single called Grey Day. Check it below and enjoy the new tune!

We Won't Break - Zoot Woman

Grey Day - Zoot Woman

What else is going on? Well in rock stuff, Louis XIV are a UK band that are now about to release their second offering. I recall quite liking a single off their last album, but I never sought it out. So here's a taste of their new stuff. I like it mainly because the video clip is all the characters from The Dark Crystal singing along to their words. Still, it's a fun, fast song and there may be more fun on further listening of their new album.

Guilt By Association - Louis XIV

Oh and here's another fun one from Okyo, it's the first track off their online album.

Brother - Okyo

In other music news, I need a new MP3 player...but am still not wanting to buy an iPod. I do need something with quite a bit of gig though because I'm used to having 40 now and I fill that up. Any suggestions? I would like maybe Creative of iRiver, but these are all very expensive. I have seen 80gig iPods for less that 400 though, so I may have to conform! Not that I even have that to spend yet, but my brick of an iRiver is slowly fading away on the inside I feel. It's had a good run though.
